Determining whether or not you need advice
If you are not sure whether you need advice when choosing the appropriate pension, consider the two client profiles below.

"I have arranged my own pensions before and understand the tax relief available and the levels of contributions necessary to meet my retirement income needs. I am aware that there are several different pension products and am confident of researching each of them to ensure that the structure and charges are right for me. I am also confident in selecting either one fund or more that will provide a level of risk that I am comfortable with. I also understand that funds are influenced by inflation, interest rates and the economy and as a consequence, fluctuate in value; more so, the higher risk funds I hold. I intend to review my portfolio regularly by checking my pension funds online and will make switches where appropriate." |

"In the past I have used a Financial Adviser to arrange my pensions. I know that each of the different type of pension provides different options, but I am not exactly sure of these differences. I wouldn't know where to start in calculating the premiums necessary to contribute to ensure that my retirement income needs are met. I do not feel confident picking my own funds. I would not be comfortable being left with the responsibility of ensuring my funds continue to perform as expected. I would feel happier receiving a helping hand and having someone explain things to me." |
